Why did my route recalculate? (two-wheeler vs driving routing)
Applies to: Android and iPhone
Motorcycle routing, and why it matters
Where two-wheeler routing is available, RideClan can route you as a motorcycle rather than as a car. It is on by default, because this is a motorcycle app, and you can switch to car in the vehicle selector if you would rather. Since September 2026 the setting applies to the route and ETA you see BEFORE you set off, not just the guidance once you are riding.
This is a safety setting, not a shortcut
The distance and time difference between a motorcycle route and a car route is often small, and that is exactly what makes it easy to dismiss. The difference that counts is WHICH roads. Plenty of flyovers and expressways do not allow two wheelers at all, and a car route will send you straight onto one. Check the vehicle selector before riding somewhere unfamiliar.
Where two-wheeler routing is available
Google supports two-wheeler routing in about 40 countries. RideClan decides whether to offer it from your home country if you have set one, and otherwise from your phone region. Where it is not supported the vehicle selector is not shown at all, and RideClan uses driving directions. Guidance works the same way either way.
Why the route recalculated
If you leave the planned route - miss a turn, take a detour, or the road is blocked - RideClan recalculates a new route from where you are. This is normal and keeps guidance pointed at your destination.
FAQ
What does "using car directions" mean?
It means two-wheeler routing is not available where you ride, so RideClan is using standard driving directions instead. Guidance still works the same way.
How do I make sure I get a motorcycle route?
Set the vehicle selector to Motorcycle. It is on by default. Where two-wheeler routing is not supported the selector does not appear, because there is nothing to choose.
Is a car route actually a problem on a bike?
It can be. Many flyovers and expressways do not allow two wheelers, and a car route will route you onto them. The time difference is usually minor; the road difference is the part that matters.
Can I stop it from recalculating?
Reroutes happen when you leave the route. Follow the guidance and it will not need to recalculate. If you take a planned detour, it finds a new route automatically.
